The Smashing Pumpkins Embark on “The World Is a Vampire Tour” with Interpol and Rival Sons

Iconic rock band The Smashing Pumpkins are set to embark on their highly anticipated North American tour, aptly titled “The World Is a Vampire Tour,” in support of their latest album, “Atum.” The tour promises a thrilling experience for fans, with special guests Interpol and Rival Sons joining them on stage.

The tour’s opening show will take place at Jones Beach on Wednesday, August 30th, where The Smashing Pumpkins, led by the legendary Billy Corgan, will command the stage and deliver an unforgettable performance.

Reflecting on the significance of the tour, Billy Corgan shared his perspective, saying, “I grew up in a world where I needed to know bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and the Cure existed, it meant there was a place for people like me to hang out and belong. The tour’s title draws inspiration from the lyrics of the iconic track “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” from their album “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.” “Atum,” the band’s latest album, slated for release on May 5th, is poised to continue the narrative of their earlier works, serving as a sequel to “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” and “Machina/Machine of God.”

The Smashing Pumpkins have left an indelible mark on the rock scene since the ’90s, standing shoulder to shoulder with luminaries like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Stone Temple Pilots. The lineup features enduring members Billy Corgan, James Iha on guitar, and Jimmy Chamberlin on drums, with Jeff Schroeder adding his guitar and keyboard prowess since 2006. Bassist Jack Bates and multi-instrumentalist/backing vocalist Katie Cole have also become integral to the live performances.

The “Atum: A Rock Opera in Three Acts” trilogy, the band’s 12th studio album, is set to conclude with its final installment on April 21st, rounding out a collection that pays homage to their monumental “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.” Other seminal albums include the 1991 debut “Gish” and the ’93 masterpiece “Siamese Dream.”

Rival Sons, known for their blues-rock energy, will kick off the night with their California-founded quartet. Their signature track “Pressure and Time” evokes the spirit of rock’s glory days, reminiscent of Led Zeppelin.

Direct support comes from early 2000s sensation Interpol, a New York combo that channels the post-punk brilliance of Joy Division. Interpol’s gold-certified albums, including the hit-packed “Antics,” have solidified their reputation as a force to be reckoned with.
